Affordability and Versatility – Extruded Acrylic
Extruded acrylic offers a cost-effective alternative that is both flexible and resistant to impacts for general fabrication and various applications. Its production via a continuous manufacturing process minimizes the risk of contamination by dirt or particulates, yielding a final product that is more stable dimensionally.
Extruded Acrylic
Extruded acrylic is produced by continuously pushing acrylic mass through a form, resulting in a heterogeneous, impact-resistant product. Its properties may vary depending on the direction of extrusion.
Compared to cast acrylic, extruded acrylic is more budget-friendly and dimensionally stable, making it a cost-effective solution for general fabrication and various applications. Thanks to its malleability and low melting point, extruded acrylic is well-suited for laser cutting, routing, polishing, cementing, and thermoforming. Moreover, it is less prone to dirt, lint, or particulate contamination during production. Additionally, its resistance to ultraviolet light degradation ensures it remains clear and does not yellow even after prolonged sun exposure.
Our transparent extruded acrylic sheets maintain their original color and appearance despite exposure to cold, heat, humidity, and sunlight. They are suitable for greenhouse glazing, shed or garage window installation, and a variety of indoor applications.
Extruded acrylic boasts an impressive light transmittance of 92 percent, with a warranty ensuring it retains at least 97 percent of this ability over a 10-year period. Additionally, UV-filtering acrylic effectively absorbs over 98 percent of ultraviolet radiation below 400 nanometers.
During the extrusion process, inherent stress may result in minor imperfections such as ripples or lines on the surface. Although these imperfections are generally imperceptible to the naked eye, they may become noticeable in precision optical applications. However, for glazing or everyday applications, these imperfections are negligible.
While extruded acrylic may not be suitable for precision optical applications, it provides a cost-effective solution for projects prioritizing affordability while maintaining transparency and durability. Common uses include glazing, protective barriers, shelves, lighting fixtures, and DIY projects.
